Emergency Electrical Services

24/7 Emergency Electricians Wellington

Power out across the house? Sparking outlet? Burning smell behind the switchboard? Electrical faults don’t wait for office hours and neither do we — every day of the year, including ANZAC Day, Easter, Christmas and New Year.

What Counts as an Electrical Emergency

Burning smells, smoke from outlets, sparking switches, total power loss with no street outage, water-damaged switchboards, exposed live wiring after a renovation. Don’t wait — turn the main switch off if you can do so safely, then call 0800 484 353.

Old House Rewires & Black Rubber Wiring

Old black rubber wiring (common in pre-1960s Wellington homes) is a known fire risk — the insulation perishes and crumbles. We do full and partial rewires, switchboard upgrades and modern RCD protection retrofits.

Switchboard Upgrades & RCD Protection

Tripping Breakers & Overloaded Circuits

If your breakers trip when you run the kettle and microwave at the same time, you’ve outgrown the original switchboard. We do full switchboard / fuse-board upgrades with modern MCBs and RCD protection on every circuit.

What an RCD Actually Does

A Residual Current Device detects current leaking to earth (you, the dishwasher chassis, water in a wall cavity) and trips within 30 milliseconds. NZ wiring rules require RCD protection on all socket and lighting circuits in new work and after most major modifications. If your home is more than 20 years old and hasn’t been touched since, it almost certainly doesn’t have full RCD coverage.

Kitchen Extractor Fans & Range Hoods

Healthy Homes Standards Compliant Ventilation

Range hoods do two jobs — pull cooking grease out of the air and remove steam before it gets into your ceiling and turns into mould. Under the Healthy Homes Standards, kitchen extract fans installed after 1 July 2019 must be ducted to outside, with a minimum diameter of 150mm or capacity of 50 litres per second.

Bathroom Moisture-Detector Fans

For rentals especially, moisture-detector fans (which run automatically when humidity rises) are a sensible upgrade — tenants don’t have to remember to switch them on. Combined with a properly-sized bathroom renovation ventilation plan, they all but eliminate ceiling mould.

Energy-Efficient Lighting & Lower Power Bills

Switching to LED Bulbs

An old 100-watt incandescent bulb does the same job as a modern 5-20 watt LED. Replace the bulbs across an average Wellington home and you’ll see lighting power consumption drop by 75-85%. LEDs also last 15-25 times longer, so you’re not on a ladder every six months.

Whole-Home Energy Audits

We can walk through and identify the high-cost appliances and circuits — old hot water cylinder elements, leaky heat pump installs, old downlights with halogen bulbs — and stage upgrades against the savings they generate.

Solar Power & EV Charging

Solar PV Panel Installation

We’ve been on solar at our own Karori office for years — a typical month’s power bill sits around $17. Same gear and same install practice goes onto customer roofs. Tied-in with battery storage and an EV charger, you can run a household and a car off your own roof for most of the year.

Electric Vehicle Chargers in Wellington

Domestic EV charger installs typically run a dedicated 30-amp circuit from the switchboard to a wall-mounted unit in the carport or garage. We’ll site the charger to suit your parking, run cabling cleanly, and certify the install. See also our solar panel installation page.
